Brethren In Harmony is the founding chapter of The Christian Barbershop Harmony Fellowship (CBHF) which was established to preserve and promote the barbershop harmony style of singing in a gospel ministry. CBHF is an independent, non-denominational gospel choral association, established under The National Heritage Foundation (NHF) as a charitable foundation project.
Made up of laymen from around the Washington D.C. metropolitan area, the chorus ministers throughout the year at church activities, prison outreaches, hospitals, care centers, and other community and civic affairs. The group has appeared in programs at the Kennedy Center and on the Ellipse across from the White House. Part of its credo is to encourage fellowship between men from neighboring Christian churches, to teach good vocal techniques, and to give local congregations a unique musical resource. The group originally was organized and directed by the late Bill Holsinger, who also was a member of SPEBSQSA's Bull Run Troubadors. Male a cappella singing is a wholesome sound that sometimes makes you yearn for the "good old days." Brethren in Harmony blends these cherished melodies and rich harmonies into a program ranging from the great hymns of the faith to spiritual choruses to campground-meeting stompers. Their unique ministry combines original four-part arrangements with personal anecdotes and testimonies in a way that is sure to touch the heart. The Gospel message always is clearly present in each of their concerts. Brethren in Harmony performs as a faith ministry, welcoming every opportunity to sing and speak for the Lord Jesus Christ. Membership is open to all Christian men who love to harmonize.
